Featured Guest: Jennifer Risley

Meet Jennifer Risley. She was another early guest on the tour, and also another guest who dived into our time together with passion. As she knew the basics of composition and technical knowledge, we were free to explore Hidden Brugge fully, and with some fine weather (for Belgium) no less.

A bunch of the results made it to her Bruges smugmug gallery, make sure to take a look at the full set.

The Photos: Black & White is quite alright

We decided to feature Jennifer’s black and white takes on Brugge. While she mentioned that she was still somewhat new to Lightroom, the results she shared wouldn’t give it away easily. While she may want to work on controlling/recovering some of the worst highlights (this is why we shoot RAW and/or bracket), her simplicity gives her shots of Brugge a classic feel as the city itself emulates. Win!

Not sure if Jen took this with us, but a perfect take on the Burg (Toyo Ito) Pavilion. In fact, this is the view the artist suggests to enjoy the piece with.

Loved this for the composition and “straight” black & white toning. Also, a wide shot of the main image from the Tour.

The winding alley in St.Anna, again great composition and superb toning. Bonus for recovery of the sky behind the tree branches.

Definitely not taken while touring with us, but LOVE this expressive shot of the Market square!

Clean and clear, no modern cars to distract or such. A perfect example of where the b&w adds to the feel.

As cat lovers ourselves, this pic had to make it in!

We also quite liked these two color photos, vivid and welcoming without being overpowering and abrasive.

Lovely shot of the windmills where this photo tour ended, rock solid on the 1/3s composition and with lovely color toning all around.

A bit dark to some, but the way the colors, composition and subject project such “hard” warmth is to surely enjoy.
